The Kindergarten Core
Mrs.
George’s Class News
Feb. 19-22
Core Curriculum
Word Wall:
*We
practice the sight word “we”.
Alphabet:
We will write the upper and lowercase letters
and practice their sounds. Students need to be able to recognize, and write
each upper and lowercase letter as well as know each letter sound!
Math:
*We will practice calendaring skills, counting to 30 by
ones and tens to 100, counting by 5s, one to one correspondence, graphing,
shapes, and patterning.
*We will continue our morning calendar books.
*We will practice counting and writing numbers to 30.
*We will practice simple addition and subtraction.
*We will tell time to the hour.
*We will work in our math journals during centers.
*We will continue estimation! I will be sending
home ESTIMATION JARS for students to work on and bring to school! Please watch
for this jar coming home soon!
Literacy
*We
will continue Kindergarten Power ½ hour. Students
will be working in groups developing literacy and reading skills! This is a
VERY important part of our Kindergarten program.
*We
will continue the Harcourt and Fontas and Pinnel literacy programs.
*We
will continue the new Intensive Phonics Program. Please watch for homework
sheets that coordinate with this program!
*We
will discuss beginning, middle, and ending of stories.
*We
will predict and summarize.
*We
will work on sequencing events in a story.
*We
will practice asking questions.
*We
will work on syllables.
*We
will work on segmenting sounds in words. (Beginning, middle, end)
*We
will review parts of a sentence. (capitol, spacing, punctuation)
*We
will discuss book orientation and fiction and nonfiction.
*We
will work in sight word poem books.

Writing:
*We
will continue Writer’s Workshop and continue drawing and writing in our
Kindergarten Journals and Scribble Journals will full sentences. (Capitol,
spacing, and punctuation)
*We
will practice handwriting skills and proper pencil grip.

Picking
*Reading
Folders are Due Monday Feb. 19.
Please work on filling out your reading record, so your child can receive two
new books. Prizes will be given weekly and monthly for students who complete
their reading!
*Kindergarten
Testing if FINISHED! I have attached the fall retest and winter test scores!
All things that are highlighted need to be reviewed!
*President’s Day is Feb. 18! NO
SCHOOL on this day!
*Curriculum
Night/Multicultural Fair is scheduled for Feb. 21 at 6:00. There will be several booths highlighting the
diverse cultures in our school! We will also have some make and take sheets in
the classroom for you to take and use at home for review of some of the
concepts we are learning! Stop by, it will be a FUN night!
*We
have a walking field trip planned for Feb. 22 to the Heritage Center to watch
an Orchestra. Please sign the attached field trip permission sheet and return
ASAP!
*We are
beginning to award students for passing off their alphabet, sight words, and
numbers to 30. Students will receive an award for recognizing, writing, and
telling the sound for each letter of the alphabet. They will receive an award
for reading 25 Kindergarten Sight Words, and an award for writing and
recognizing ALL numbers to 30! We call these awards the ABC Club, Sight Word
Club, and Number Club! I will be notifying you soon if your child will be
receiving any of these awards!
*Kindergarten Registration for
our school is on Tuesday March 12 from 11-3 in the gym! Spread the word, so we
can get our new Kindergartners registered for school!
*Please
check the class blog! Go to the school web page and click on faculty. Click on
my name below my picture and you will see our blog!
*Please
work on skill sheet #6 with your child, sign the paper, and return the sheet at
the end of the month.
*Please
practice Sight Word Bonus List #1 with your child. When he/she is ready to pass
off the list, return it with the signed slip! Students need to be able to read
each word fluently to pass off the list.
*We will have
CENTERS on Feb. 19 and 20! Volunteers, I will see you there! I rely HEAVILY on
your support to make my centers a success! Please make sure you sign in!

will visit the library on Feb. 11. Please return you library book, so your
child can receive a new one! ALL library books and Book in a Bag need to be
returned before the holiday break!
*P.E.
and Music day is every Thursday! Wear appropriate shoes for PE.

class – 8:55-10:55. Please be on time to avoid tardies
and classroom
distraction.
*Remember
that if your child is going to be missing a day of school to call the office
and excuse them. In addition, if you are going to be picking up your child
early, please make sure you check them out in the office before picking them up
from class.

100 DAYS OF KINDERGARTEN!!!!
Our 100th Day Snack!
We are 100 days smarter!

Students drew or glued on 100 things!

Jar #1! The size of the items can make it more difficult and deceiving!
Can you stand on one foot for 100 seconds?
We can!
We were also able to do 100 jumping jacks in our pjs!
What a GREAT 100th day!
