Curriculum
Word Wall:
*We will practice/review the capitol and lowercase letters.
Students need to be recognizing, writing, and able to make the sound for each upper and lower case letter.
*We will practice the sight word “for”.
Math:
*We will practice calendaring skills, counting by 10s, 5s, 2s, graphing, and shapes.
*We will continue time to the hour, and learning about analog clocks and digital clocks.
*We will learn about numbers 0-30.
*We will practice patterning.
*We will practice one to one correspondence.
*We will work on fewer and more.
*We will continue estimation. I will continue sending home estimation jars for the kids to worki on. Please watch for these jars coming home. There will be a sheet explaining what to do with the jar when it is your turn to estimate.
*We will continue addition.
*We will continue learning about money and coin values.
*We will begin part/whole lessons.
Literacy
*We will continue the Harcourt and Fontas and Pinnel literacy programs.
*We will continue the Intensive Phonics program. Please watch for the homework sheets associated with this program.
*We will continue our Nursery Rhyme book.
*We will be learning about sentence structure.
*We will work on beginning, middle, and ending sounds, and rhyming.
*We will discuss sounds we hear in words and segmenting sounds.
*We will continue nonsense words.
*We will continue our predecodable books.
*We will discuss Beginning, Middle, and Ending of stories. We will discuss characters, setting, problem, and solution.
*We will predict and summarize.
*We will work on sequencing events in a story.
*We will practice asking questions.
*We will discuss book orientation and fiction and nonfiction.
*We will continue our POWER HALF HOUR GROUPS! POWER HALF HOUR CONSISTS OF INTENSIVE SMALL GROUP WORK TO PREPARE STUDENTS FOR READING SUCCESS!
Books: Snowflake Bentley, Various winter, snow, Heart of the Arctic, Tacky the Penguin, The Money Book, and mitten books, Various alphabet books to celebrate our completion of the ABC book!
Writing:
*We will be working in our scribble journals and our Kindergarten Journals.
*We will practice handwriting skills.
*We will continue writing stories to share with the class!
These will be homework assignments. Please watch for them coming home!

Announcements:
*READING FOLDERS are due Feb. 7! Please have the reading record filled out, so your child can receive two new books and a new reading record.
*Please work on your GOLDEN SNEAKER! Make sure your child’s name is on their calendar!
*Second term has ended. Attached are the progress reports as well as test scores from the Kindergarten assessment and Dibels assessment.
*Please work on the FEB. skills sheet and sight word list! I have had a couple parents interested in getting flash cards for the first three lists. I have attached these today.
*Valentine’s Day is Monday FEB 14!!!! We will be having a Valentine Party and exchanging valentines! I will send you a list of who is on this party committee and a note explaining what to do for Valentines Day exchange on Mon Feb. 7!!!! Please be watching for this!
*We have a student teacher in our classroom! Her name is Mrs. Dodds. She is excellent! She is doing a unit on mapping for the students. We are enjoying her in the classroom!
*We will continue our Book In A Bag program. Students will receive a book in a plastic zip lock bag each Tuesday. The book must be read that night and parents will initial on the slip provided in the bag. The book may be returned the next day or during the week. As long as it comes back before the next Tuesday, the child will receive a new book. These books are to be read by parent to students.
*Remember that computer day is Tuesday and Music and P.E. are on Thursday. Wear appropriate shoes for P.E.
*Library Day is Monday. Please return your books each Monday!
*I will continue sending home the Bear Bag activity backpacks. If your child is chosen for a Bear Bag, please complete the activities and return the bag on the date indicated. Students may receive the bag if they are consistent with turning in homework, and their reading and homework folders.
*Our school is now collecting box tops. Please send any that you have collected in your child’s homework folder.
*Please check our class BLOG if you need to access the newsletter. To access the blog, go to the school web page and click on Faculty. Click on my name below my picture and you will see our blog! I intend to post the newsletter each week as well as class pictures and upcoming events as I become more confident with blogging! I think it will be a lot of fun1
*Classroom volunteers will continue this week! Remember that I have volunteers for Monday and Friday coming from 9:30-10:00. I had to change those two days to accommodate for power half hour. This ONLY affects Friday and Monday Volunteers. The other days will remain the same. *Remember that if your child is going to be missing a day of school to call the office and excuse them. In addition, if you are going to be picking up your child early, please make sure you check them out in the office before picking them up from class.
*Remember EARLY OUT WEDNESDAY! A.M. schedule is 8:55 to 10:55. P.M.
Please be on time to avoid tardies and classroom distraction.

HOMEWORK: We will have homework on Monday and Wednesday. Please make sure you SIGN YOUR NAME under your child’s name on the homework. That way I know you have worked on it with your child. Please make sure you DO NOT have your child do homework with a pen, marker, or crayon. Pencil is best when handwriting.
