Core Curriculum
Word Wall:
*We
practice the sight word “a” and “I”.
Alphabet:
We will practice
letters Ff and Gg. We will write the upper and lowercase letters and practice
their sounds.
Math:
*We will practice calendaring skills, counting to 10 by
ones and tens, one to one correspondence, graphing, shapes, patterning, and
colors.
*We will practice counting and writing numbers to 10.
We will work on 4 and 5. We will practice counting, writing and manipulating
these numbers.
Literacy
*We
will continue the Harcourt and Fontas and Pinnel literacy programs.
*We
will discuss beginning, middle, and ending of stories.
*We
will predict and summarize.
*We
will work on sequencing events in a story.
*We
will practice asking questions.
*We
will work on syllables.
*We
will work on rhyming.
*We
will work on beginning sounds.
*We
will learn about parts of a sentence.
*We
will discuss book orientation and fiction and nonfiction.
*We
will work with environmental print.
Books:
Brown Bear Brown Bear, Mrs. Bindergarten Gets Ready For Kindergarten, Curious
George At School, Look Out Kindergarten Here I Come!, Mouse Paint,
Writing:
*We
will continue Writer’s Workshop and continue drawing and writing in our
Kindergarten Journals.
*We
will practice handwriting skills and proper pencil grip.
Event
Picking
*
Reading Folders are Due Monday Sept. 24.
Please work on filling out your reading record, so your child can receive two
new books. Prizes will be given weekly and monthly for students who complete
their reading!
*I
will be sending Dibels scores home along with your child’s beginning Kindergarten
Assessment as soon as all the scores are compiled.
*Please
check the class blog! Go to the school web page and click on faculty. Click on
my name below my picture and you will see our blog!
*Please
work on skill sheet #1 with your child, sign the paper, and return the sheet at
the end of the month. I will send home a skill sheet each month until the end
of the year! Thank you! I have now received three skill sheets! Keep up the
good work!
*Please
practice Sight Word List 1 with your child. When he/she is ready to pass off
the list, return it with the signed slip! Students need to be able to read each
word fluently to pass off the list.
We
will practice a Lock Down Drill on Sept. 25.
*We
will begin centers and volunteer time on October 3! I will be calling all
parents who signed up to volunteer to set up days and times!
*SEP
week will be Oct. 1-5. Morning Kindergarten will dismiss at 10:55 EVERY day
that week. Extended Day will dismiss at 2:30. Our Wednesday will remain the
same with all students dismissing at 10:55. We will NOT be meeting for an SEP
conference this time since we already met together before Kindergarten began;
however, we will meet in the spring.
*We
will have a third grade class coming to read with our students on Wednesday the
26th!
*Our
first Flag Ceremony will be Friday Sept. 28. at
10:00.
*We
will visit the Library Mon. Sept 24.
*P.E.
and Music day is every Thursday! Wear appropriate shoes for PE.
Early Out Wed. Times: AM class –
8:55-10:55. Please be on time to avoid tardies and classroom distraction.
*Remember that if your child
is going to be missing a day of school to call the office and excuse them. In
addition, if you are going to be picking up your child early, please make sure
you check them out in the office before picking them up from class.

We will have homework on Monday and Wednesday this week! Please remember to
have your child do the homework neatly in pencil and sign your name under
theirs, so I know you have looked at it! Homework needs to be done NEATLY WITH
BEST HANDWRITING!
