Core Curriculum
Word Wall:
*We
practice the sight word “in”.
Alphabet:
We will practice
letters Jj and Kk. We will write the upper and lowercase letters and practice
their sounds.
Math:
*We will practice calendaring skills, counting to 10 by
ones and tens to 100, one to one correspondence, graphing, shapes, patterning,
and colors.
*We will continue our morning calendar books.
*We will practice counting and writing numbers to 10.
We will work on 7, 8, and 9. We will practice counting, writing and
manipulating these numbers.
*We will work on nonstandard measurement and math
journals in centers.
Literacy
*We
will continue Kindergarten Power ½ hour. Students
will be working in groups developing literacy and reading skills! This is a
VERY important part of our Kindergarten program.
*We
will continue the Harcourt and Fontas and Pinnel literacy programs.
*We
will discuss beginning, middle, and ending of stories.
*We
will predict and summarize.
*We
will work on sequencing events in a story.
*We
will practice asking questions.
*We
will work on syllables.
*We
will work on beginning sounds.
*We
will review parts of a sentence.
We
will discuss book orientation and fiction and nonfiction.

Writing:
*We
will continue Writer’s Workshop and continue drawing and writing in our
Kindergarten Journals and Scribble Journals.
*We
will practice handwriting skills and proper pencil grip.
Class Themes: Seasons, Fall, Pumpkins
Event
Picking
*Reading Folders are Due Monday October 8. Please work on filling out your reading
record, so your child can receive two new books. Prizes will be given weekly
and monthly for students who complete their reading!
*I
will have attached your child’s Dibels scores along with their beginning Kindergarten
Assessment. Please review theses scores.
*Please
check the class blog! Go to the school web page and click on faculty. Click on
my name below my picture and you will see our blog!
October Field Trips: Tuesday Oct. 9 we will go to
the district bus garage to learn about bus safety.
Friday
Oct. 12 we will go to the Judd Pumpkin Patch in Paragonah. Please provide a $1
donation for your child to pick a pumpkin!
Friday
Oct. 26 we will go to the SUU art museum.
*I
have attached TWO field trip permission slips, one for the bus garage and one
for the pumpkin patch. PLEASE SIGN AND
RETURN BOTH SLIPS ON MONDAY ALONG WITH YOUR DOLLAR FOR THE PUMPKIN PATCH! THANK
YOU!
*Book
Orders are due Friday Oct. 12.
*Please
work on skill sheet #2 with your child, sign the paper, and return the sheet at
the end of the month.
*Please
practice Sight Word List 2 with your child. When he/she is ready to pass off
the list, return it with the signed slip! Students need to be able to read each
word fluently to pass off the list.
*We
will begin centers and volunteer time on October 3! I will be calling all
parents who signed up to volunteer to set up days and times!
*Red
Ribbon Week will be Oct. 8-12.
*Picture
make up day will be Oct. 16.
*Our
ESL Night will be Oct. 16. More information will be coming!
*Fall
Recess is Oct. 18, 19, and 22. NO School on these days!
*We
will begin Kindergarten Centers THIS WEEK!
I have attached a volunteer reminder for those who have signed up to
help in the classroom during center time. If there are any other parents
interested in helping with centers or volunteering, please give me a call, send
an e-mail, or come and visit with me so we can sign you up! I depend on parents
to make my centers a success!
*We will
visit the library on Oct. 8. Please return you library book, so your child can
receive a new one!
*P.E.
and Music day is every Thursday! Wear appropriate shoes for PE.
Early Out Wed. Times: AM class –
8:55-10:55. Please be on time to avoid tardies and classroom distraction.
*Remember that if your child
is going to be missing a day of school to call the office and excuse them. In
addition, if you are going to be picking up your child early, please make sure
you check them out in the office before picking them up from class.

We will have homework on Monday and Wednesday this week! Please remember to
have your child do the homework neatly in pencil and sign your name under
theirs, so I know you have looked at it! Homework needs to be done NEATLY WITH
BEST HANDWRITING!
